Ho-Ho-Holiday Movies with Your Pets

With the holiday season in full swing, there is no shortage of holiday-themed programming for households to consume each and every day. But as a pet household, what options are available for you to watch with your puppy or kitty? We’ve put together a holiday watchlist to feature some precious pets. Which will you watch first?

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Where to Watch: Apple TV+

A Christmas staple since it first aired in 1965, A Charlie Brown Christmas was originally an unconventional take at a Christmas TV special. But its popularity has now enabled it to broadcast every year due in large part to its message, a brilliant soundtrack, and the antics of a not so subtle black and white beagle. Did you know Snoopy was based on Charles Shultz’s real-life beagle named Spike?

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Where to Watch: HBO Max

Here’s one where we might have to ask – which version is your favorite? There’s the original animated classic with Boris Karloff narration, the 2000 version featuring Jim Carrey, or the newest iteration, The Grinch, where we get to learn even more about The Grinch’s faithful canine, Max. Like other selections on this list, Max is a good dog and a loyal partner (in crime) to the protagonist.

Would the Grinch have a heart at all if not for Max?

All Dogs Christmas Carol

If we had the chance to watch A Christmas Carol but with dogs, sign us up! For those nostalgic of the 90s, this special served as the end of the All Dogs Go To Heaven film series. Your family’s littles (both human and canine) will likely enjoy this pick the most!

A Dog Named Christmas

Where to Watch: Hallmark Movies Now | PlutoTV

We couldn’t exclude a warm fuzzy of a Hallmark Christmas Hall of Fame selection now, could we? While this choice may not be for everyone, if you’re looking for a feel-good family movie centered around the impact a dog can make in your life, this one is for you!

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Where to Watch: Disney+

Part Halloween movie part Christmas classic, this one is worth a watch any time between the two year-end holidays. Zero plays our main protagonist’s (Jack Skellington) pet ghost dog. So, of course he also serves as Jack’s best friend! Zero is instrumental to Jack’s plan for Christmas (even serving as an analogue to Rudolph).

A Christmas Story

Where to Watch: HBO Max

Okay, bear with us… While not the focal point of the movie, the Bumpus Hounds play a critical role in this perennial holiday classic. There were at least 785 of these smelly dogs that lived next to Ralphie in this 1983 flick, and they make their presence known in every scene they appear even over the taunting shouts of the Old Man.

Gremlins

Where to Watch: HBO Max

Are we stretching too far here? Gizmo is cute enough to compare to any of your fuzzy pet friends – topped only that he gets to avoid the chaos of the Gremlins with his loyal canine, Barney, throughout the movie.

These are just a handful of great Christmas movies featuring some cuddly pets. What’s your favorite Christmas movie to watch with your four-legged family?
