5 Tips to Get Your Kitty Moving!

While having a lazy kitty can be perfect for a snuggly movie day indoors, helping your cat stay active on a regular basis can greatly improve their overall health. Check out some of these helpful and fun ways to keep your little fluffball moving, and let us know which one is your furry best friend’s favorite!

1. Fetch isn’t just for dogs anymore!

Though you may think that fetch is only for pups, your kitty might just get a kick out of chasing after their favorite toy. To help your pet learn how to play, make sure to pick times when your cat is in a playful mood, use one of their favorite toys, reward your little fluffball for bringing the toy back to you, and keep the game short!

2. Find fun in the simple things.

Even though they might tend to look unamused, your furry best friend can find fun in tons of household objects! Set out an empty cardboard box, a paper bag, or even a crumpled piece of paper for your pet to explore. Just make sure to keep an eye on your little furry family member to make sure they don’t accidentally eat or chew on any paper or cardboard, and remove any paper clips or bag ties before giving your cat their new toy!

3. Hide and Seek!

Your kitty is a natural investigator. If you want to get them up and moving, try hiding their favorite toy in a blanket or shoebox with holes cut into it. To help your little fluffball get engaged, wiggle the toy around and watch as they leap around to catch their moving target!

4. There’s an app for that!

Tons of apps exist to get us humans up and active, so why not use our devices to help our furry friends get some more exercise too? There are actually several apps specifically created for cats that you can download to your phone, tablet, or computer! These involve fast-moving mice, fish, and more to get your kitty engaged. While they may prefer real toys to digital ones, these are a great alternative for helping your pet get active!

5. And of course, chase the red dot!

Last but not least, we have to include every kitty’s favorite game: chase the red dot. Grab a laser pointer, and watch as your little fluffball darts and pounces to catch their target. This is a great way to get your cat moving, but remember that it can be frustrating to chase something that can’t be caught. Finish up any chasing section by allowing your furry best friend to “catch” something, like their favorite toy or treat!
