Radiography and Ultrasound – NOT outmoded, ancient technologies

Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen in late 1895 discovered what he called X-rays, ultimately bringing into use the first diagnostic x-ray generator. Had he been told this amazing invention would eventually be digitized, he would have looked at and wiggled his fingers in puzzlement.
A staple of human and veterinary medical diagnostics, radiology has a vast array of benefits, especially with the current rapid results and excellent image quality with contemporary digital systems. At AVC, only the really old folks recall the days of developing actual film, by hand, in darkrooms and using ancient techno-tubs called dip tanks! We thought the automatic developer was a leap forward until we took our first digital image. To quote an observant client, “Wow!!! That is SO cool.” Each upgrade has been, well, cooler and cooler!
The mid-1990s saw ultrasound capabilities creep into veterinary small animal medicine.
It is still fascinating the things we find that eons ago we simply had no reliable way to discern. On average at AVC, we probably use our current sonogram unit on an hourly basis. That explains why we have worn out or used into obsolescence five previous systems.
